introducing the

Supatra River House

From across the Chao Phraya River in the dark of the night, The Supatra River House offers a magnificent view of the Grand Palace and the Temple of Dawn with a twinkle of lights dancing in the water.

The Supatra River House is an enchanting two-storey traditional Thai house in a quiet corner of the western bank of the Chao Phraya River. It offers a picturesque view of captivating scenes of life on-the-river.

Formerly the home of Khunying Supatra Singholaga, a highly talented and astute business person.

Khunying Supatra was a prominent figure in developing the famous Chao Phraya River ferry company. Starting out with only 2 rowing boats which she inherited from her mother, today the operation consists of a fleet of over 100 passenger boats plying the river day and night.

Khunying Supatra was also a leading advocate of women's right in Thai society. Today Khunying Supatra is remembered as a woman of great humanity, who achieved so much by personal example.

In her memory, the home, which marks a chapter of Thai history, can now be enjoyed by the public. Her daughter Supapan has converted this beautiful property with its magnificent river frontage into a stylish restaurant and dinner theatre.

Khunying Supatra loved the arts and encouraged her youngest daughter, Patravadi Mejhudon to pursue a career in the performing arts.

Patravadi herself eventually found fame as an award-winning and internationally acclaimed stage performer - dancing, singing and acting. Her intense love for the performing arts also led to a professional career in screenwriting, producing and directing, and inevitably, Patravadi became a theatre owner.

Fridays and Saturdays are devoted to the dinner theatre. The performances are created by Patravadi herself. In addition to her students, she also frequently invites Thai classical artistes to perform traditional folk plays and music in contemporary style and also in the style known as 'kub sepoc', a ballad-like recitation that has its origins in the Siamese royal courts of old. The theatre is performed as an accompaniment to the meal, to enhance your experience and knowledge of Thailand.

Cultural Attractions

During the daytime, cooking demonstrations, and the art of fruit and vegetable sculpting are presented.

There is also a small museum open at all times, as in addition to her business interests and her work in public life, Khunying Supatra was also an avid collector of Thai art and folk crafts.
